Vattenfall moves on Poland

London, UK — (METERING.COM) — August 14, 2006 – Swedish utility Vattenfall plans to expand its presence in Poland. This follows the construction of a new 300-400MW generator in Warsaw, making it the largest foreign investor in the Polish energy market.

Vattenfall currently has an estimated 1.1 million Polish customers, while it only owns 3% generating capacity.

Its focus, however, remains combined power and heat projects (CHP).

The Polish electricity market is one of the most competitive in Europe, surpassed only by Sweden and the UK. Other foreign utilities trading there include E.ON, EDF, Verbund, Electrabel, EGL and Atel.
