In Western Europe, the Swiss city of Zurich has issued a metering tender for a system based on broadband data transmission.

Tender deadline: 17 September, 2015

Municipal city EWZ is requesting proposals for the supply of combination meters and smart meters 2.0 for deployment in 2016.

Under the Zurich metering tender, EWZ is seeking a single supplier to deliver a smart metering system, meters and communication gateway using a TCP/IP-based connection to the home and broadband data transmission.

The data connection and the central IP telemetry servers are a prerequisite for the system.

Suppliers have until 4 September, 2015 to submit written questions.

Tender documents and offers must be written in German and submitted by 17 September, 2015 at 12h00.

The Swiss Federal Office of Energy has indicated that smart meters are a component of the country’s smart grid strategy and form an integral part of the European Union’s 2050 Energy Strategy, of which Switzerland is a signatory.
