Rome, Italy — (METERING.COM) — February 6, 2009 – Italian utility Acea Distribuzione S.p.A. has selected Oracle Utilities Meter Data Management solution to support its 1.6 million meter automatic meter management (AMM) project.
The AMM system will allow Acea to finely manage high accuracy, bi-directional meter data and smart grid applications to improve network operations control and automatically monitor low and medium voltage lines. With the AMM project, Acea plans to improve supply quality for its customers, provide commercial options tailored to an individual’s consumption profile and increase availability of consumption information online.
“The solution will help us to provide our customers with advanced options including consumption profiles as well as consumption information online – ultimately allowing the consumer to make more informed decisions about their energy use,” said Delio Svaluto Moreolo of Acea’s metering department.
Acea Distribuzione, which is part of Acea Group and one of the largest municipalities in Italy, manages electricity and water distribution, as well as retail gas and electricity.
Acea’s project is one of the largest AMM deployments in Europe to date and it is planned to eventually extend it to gas and water meters.
Oracle Utilities recently announced two other deployments of its Meter Data Management solution. Modesto Irrigation District, a multi-service utility in in Modesto, CA will use the solution to support its 100,000 smart meter program. Old Dominion Electric Cooperative, a wholesale electric generation and transmission (G&T) cooperative in Glen Allen, VA, will use the solution to automate manual reporting and analysis processes.
