AMI program will improve customer service


Madison, WI, U.S.A. — (METERING.COM) — February 26, 2008 – Wisconsin Power and Light Company (WPL), a subsidiary of Alliant Energy Corporation, has received approval from the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin to begin implementing an advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) project for its natural gas customers. AMI, which will also be implemented for WPL’s electric customers, will enable remote metering, which will allow for more accurate bills and provide real-time usage and outage management information.

“Every customer will benefit from AMI technology and the improved services it will enable us to deliver,” said Barbara Siehr, Vice President of Customer Service. “This technology provides us with opportunities to work more efficiently to accurately gather customer electricity and natural gas usage information. It will also build the foundation for enhanced energy management and the development of new rate options.

Initial installation of AMI-enabled electric and gas metering devices is scheduled to begin in March. After evaluating this initial phase, a decision will be made on how AMI will be implemented throughout the WPL territory. The cost for electric and gas AMI implementation in the WPL service territory is expected to be approximately $95 million.
