Seguin, TX, U.S.A. --- (METERING.COM) --- February 5, 2008 – Customers in Seguin may receive a shock when their elderly water meters are replaced with new meters that will be read remotely. Some of the existing meters are more than 60 years old, and the city council believes that they have been under-recording water consumption for some time. As a result residents have been warned that their water bills could be much higher than they are used to.
The proposed AMR system will be RF fixed network, with data collectors transmitting information back to the main computer. The contract allows for both electric and water meters to be replaced.
Seguin councilors say that major water leaks could also be detected, depending on the level of service it negotiates with the supplier – something that will be beneficial to both customers and the city.
