Brazilian utility adopts new technology for improved performance

Escelsa LogoSao Paulo, Brazil — (METERING.COM) — January 19, 2007 – Escelsa, part of the Energias do Brasil Group, has selected Zeus Extensible Traffic Manager (ZXTM) and Zeus Web Server (ZWS) to improve the availability and performance of their network and their web-enabled billing system. Zeus Technology is a provider of award-winning application traffic management software, and this sale is a result of the company’s new partnership with Brazilian reseller ITLOG, a provider of IT management applications and managed services.

The solution has been standardized as the traffic management solution for the whole group, which includes two other power distribution companies and hydroelectric plants, among others.

Energias do Brasil is owned by EDP (Portugal’s major energy group) and had been searching for a clustered load balancing solution with SSL offloading features. They also wanted to reduce the downtime caused by maintenance to servers.

“With ZXTM and ZWS, we have had 100% availability and gained unprecedented visibility of the amount of bandwidth the billing application uses,” stated Wagner Cecato, Senior System Engineer of Energias do Brasil. “This application provides information for the metering process at each customer’s house, permitting us to invoice on the spot. If this information was not available, the invoice would need to be printed centrally and sent by mail, so the availability of our billing application has had a direct impact on our financial performance.”
