Mexico City, Mexico — (METERING.COM) — April 8, 2009 – Mexico’s Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) has awarded a contract for the supply of 1.74 million smart meters to national meter manufacturer Grupo IUSA.

The meters, with a contract value of Mx$1.42 billion (US$105.4 million), will be supplied between May and November this year. They will enable CFE to meet the needs of its growing customer base, said Grupo IUSA in a statement.

“This important transaction confirms the confidence of customers in the quality of products and services offered by Grupo IUSA,” commented the group’s director of finance, Rafael Dávila.

CFE provides electric service to over 25 million customers in Mexico and its market is growing by about 900,000 new customers each year.

Grupo IUSA has also announced that it is to supply 160,000 electromechanical meters to Luz y Fuerza del Centro (LyFC). Of these 100,000 meters will be supplied during April and the remaining 60,000 will be supplied during May and June. The value of this contract is Mx$52.6 million (US$3.9 million).

LyFC provides electric service to more than 5 million customers in the central region of Mexico.
