City of Ottawa launches water AMI program

Ottawa, ON, Canada — (METERING.COM) — April 12, 2011 – The City of Ottawa has launched its water advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) project which is set to be deployed to the approximately 210,000 accounts city-wide over the next two years.

In the $28.4 million project, only the water meter’s outdoor reading device will be changed from a touch pad system to a battery-powered transmitter. In the first phase, the new units will be installed at approximately 1,500 homes, starting in mid-May

The City’s current equipment that requires manual water meter readings is at the end of its life cycle, but with the new system all water bills will be based on actual consumption.
