Clarksville, TN, U.S.A. — (METERING.COM) — November 19th, 2007 – The Clarksville Department of Electricity (CDE) will deploy muNet’s WebGate AMI technology to deliver advanced metering and other utility applications over its Fiber-to-the-Home network infrastructure. muNet® is a provider of IP and other standards-based (AMI) solutions.
In addition to serving more than 54,000 electric customers over a 96 square mile service territory in northwest Tennessee, CDE has started construction of a Fiber-to-the-Home network that will deliver voice, video and data communication services to citizens and businesses in the City of Clarksville. As the fiber network is built out, CDE will deploy muNet’s WebGate Classic and WebGate TotalPoint AMI solutions resulting in a true, always-on broadband enabled AMI platform.
Built around standards-based communications technologies including IP and 802.15.4/ZigBee, muNet’s WebGate AMI technologies are specifically designed to enable utilities to leverage any multifunctional broadband communications infrastructure to effect advanced metering applications. In addition to delivering traditional utility applications such as automated interval meter reading, voltage monitoring, demand response, and remote power disconnect/reconnect, the WebGate AMI platform will deliver additional value by enabling CDE to power their Fiber-to-the-Home gateway devices off of a specially designed meter collar-based powering solution.
“In addition to the operational efficiencies that the WebGate AMI System has delivered, the ability to utilize our existing network infrastructure assets for AMI has been a key driver for CDE throughout this process,” notes Walter Haynes, Vice President of Metering Services for CDE. “muNet’s innovative metering solutions have enabled us to offer new services and interact with our customer base in a manner that we have envisioned for a long time, and we look forward to continuing to develop value-added applications over this powerful platform.”
CDE will be deploying both WebGate Classic and WebGate TotalPoint AMI solutions over their FTTH infrastructure. WebGate Classic enabled meters interface to the FTTH network through direct Ethernet communication to installed FTTH gateways devices at the home, while TotalPoint enabled metering points incorporate 802.15.4/ZigBee wireless communications that can utilize any IP-based network connection for meter data backhaul.
