U.S. energy utility CMS Energy, based in Michigan, has appointed David Mengebier to serve as its chief compliance officer. Mengebier adds the duties of chief compliance officer to his existing responsibilities as senior vice president of governmental and public affairs/community services.
He is responsible for managing CMS Energy’s corporate and community-based government relations, public affairs, external and internal communications, and economic development activities. He also is president of the charitable foundations for CMS Energy and its Michigan utility, Consumers Energy.
As chief compliance officer, Mengebier will be responsible for overseeing the company’s compliance with all applicable laws and regulations and its code of conduct, which establishes ethical standards for CMS Energy employees, officers, and Board of Directors.
Mengebier joined CMS Energy in 1991. He has a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Michigan, a law degree from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School and a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University. He serves on the boards of directors of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, the Business Council for International Understanding, the Michigan State Chamber of Commerce, and the Michigan Economic Development Foundation.
