The utility has in May coordinated a statewide drill which resulted in multiagency response to simulated disasters, including extreme flooding and related damage and a cyberattack. More than 80 organisations joined ComEd in the exercise.

ComEd has been investing in smart grid technologies to improve the resilience of its grid network since 2012. This has resulted in improved grid reliability by 60% and avoided more than 1.3 million power interruptions.

Stephen Rodriguez Jr., National Weather Service meteorologist, said: “ComEd has been an active ambassador for several years to ensure weather safety of their employees and publics they serve.
