Consultants appointed to assist with AMR plans

Wenatchee, WA, U.S.A. — (METERING.COM) — March 19, 2008 – The Chelan County Public Utility District (PUD) has appointed Plexus Research, a division of consultants R. W Beck, to assist with its plans to deploy an automated meter reading solution for its 45,000 electric meters.

Approval for the switch to an AMR system has already been obtained; the PUD believes it will pay for itself in due course, because it will obviate the need for manual meter reading over an extensive service territory. The fact that the system will also allow users to monitor their consumption and take steps to become more energy efficient is an added attraction.

The new meters will collect the data from consumers and transmit it over the utility’s power lines to local substations. Data will be transmitted from the substations to the PUD’s computer system via fiber-optic cables. The PUD hopes to include water meter reads in the same system, as the existing water meters have already been automated.
