Daniel J. Malone appointed vice president of energy operations services and safety at Consumers Energy

Daniel J. Malone, a 24-year utility industry veteran with extensive operational and technical experience, has been named vice president of energy operations and safety for Consumers Energy. The utility, the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy, provides natural gas and electricity to nearly 6.5 million of Michigan’s 10 million residents.

In the newly created position, Malone will report to Frank Johnson, senior vice president of energy operations. Malone will be responsible for operations services, network services, gas transmission and storage, employee training and development in energy operations, and safety. His appointment is effective on June 1.

Energy Operations is responsible for operating and maintaining the electric and natural gas delivery systems that serve the utility’s customers.

Malone recently completed the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program. Before entering that program, he was the site business manager for Consumers Energy’s J.H. Campbell Generating Complex, which can generate up to 1,440 megawatts, enough to power a city of a million people.

Malone joined Consumers Energy in 1984 and held a series of increasingly responsible positions with the company. He has a bachelor’s degree in environmental science from Purdue University and also holds a nuclear Senior Reactor Operator certification.
