Demand Response: Navigant names Itron the global leader

The Navigant Residential Demand Response leaderboard has named Itron as the leader in the global industry, citing strategy and execution as leading reasons for its ranking.

According to Navigant, Itron “has the strongest foothold within the [residential demand response] market, offering a turnkey service for utilities.”

“Itron leads the Residential Demand Response Leaderboard with its diversified portfolio of hardware, software and services, and scored higher than the second-tier vendors that offer partial solutions,” says Brett Feldman, principal research analyst at Navigant Research.

“Itron differentiated itself through extensive hardware and software development; solid implementation services; deep market and customer relationships; and a sustainable business model.”

Committed to delivering demand response solutions

Steve Hambric, Itron VP of distributed energy management says: “We are committed to delivering solutions built upon distributed energy resources, such as demand response, that are deployed and managed to optimize the distribution grid and customer experience. As we work to deliver great outcomes to our customers, it is rewarding to be named the market leader by Navigant Research.”

In the Demand Response Leaderboard 2015, the last time the leaderboard was published, Navigant named Comverge as the industry leader. In June 2017 Itron acquired Comverge, opening up new opportunities for product offerings and channels globally, including fully integrated AMI and demand response solutions under a unified network offering.

Leaderboard positioning is determined by analysing the strengths and weaknesses of key industry players and displaying these visibly in the Leaderboard grid.

Market research analysts at Technavio predict that the global demand response (DR) market will grow steadily at a CAGR of around 16% by 2021.

The growing demand for smart devices and analytics software is forecasted to be one of the primary growth factors for this market. The implementation of new and smart devices such as smart meters, thermostats, and automatic control switches, has increased the ability of electricity networks to keep track of the real-time utilisation of electricity.
