San Diego, CA, U.S.A. — (METERING.COM) — February 2, 2011 – Elster has entered into two partnerships with power and automation group ABB and automation system security management provider Industrial Defender to enhance its advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) and smart grid solutions.
The partnership with ABB has led to the integration of Elster’s ALPHA-based medium voltage (MV) AGI node monitoring and communications platform with ABB’s new SCC-125 split core combination voltage and current sensor. The integrated product will provide remote wireless feeder monitoring at the medium voltage level, and combined and time synchronized with other system-level data will enable utilities to more efficiently monitor and operate their distribution network.
The partnership with Industrial Defender is for cyber security and compliance with Elster’s EnergyAxis® solution. Enhancements to the existing security include advanced security intrusion detection and prevention at the end point, server, perimeter and network levels, and high availability centralized applications for monitoring, analysis, records management and compliance reporting. The integration comprises the entire EnergyAxis solution. It also includes meters, networking devices, meter data management (MDM) servers, distribution automation (DA) servers, workstations and other devices.
The Elster-ABB offering provides utilities with a cost effective solution for plug-and-play metering of overhead medium voltage feeders, while the offering with Industrial Defender supports comprehensive situational awareness and security process automation across an entire AMI and DA infrastructure.
