Energy management solution from 3eTI to support Naval District Washington’s SmartGrid program


Rockville, MD, U.S.A. — (METERING.COM) — February 16, 2012 – A $10 million contract from the U.S. Navy to implement an enterprise industrial controls system (EICS) for the Naval District Washington has been awarded to wireless network solutions provider Ultra Electronics 3eTI.

The system will be built on 3eTI’s EnergyGuard and VirtualGuard solutions. EnergyGuard is an advanced cyber secure sensor networking system that will integrate the Naval District Washington region’s direct digital controls (DDC) and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems into an enterprise network. VirtualGuard is a secure wireless intelligent video network system that enables critical infrastructure protection and connects remote sensors to security operations centers to facilitate alerts, response to, and analysis of security events.

The EICS solution is the foundational system, among other systems, that is enabling the Navy to comply with congressional mandates to reduce its energy consumption.

For the EICS implementation, 3eTI will design, develop and securely integrate the industrial controls systems across several Naval District Washington bases into a central facility operations center while preserving legacy investments in building automation systems. The solutions also will allow facility managers to perform real time operations at the building level, giving the Navy the ability to monitor, control and optimize energy usage in real time.
