EVO’s IPMVP selected by California for EM&V

EVO is an international non-profit organisation offering products and services which aid in:
• Measurement and Verification (M&V) of energy/water efficiency projects
• Financial risk management of energy savings performance contracts
• Quantifying emissions reductions from energy efficiency projects
• Promoting sustainable and green construction.

EVO is the only organisation in the world solely dedicated to creating M&V tools to allow efficiency to flourish. EVO’s vision is a global market that properly values the efficiency resource, enabling and assisting the optimal investment in these opportunities. By focusing specifically on the valuation of efficiency projects, EVO fills a void in our industry.

Energy and environmental issues continue to be front page stories around the world. As global energy consumption of all types continues to grow, the focus is beginning to shift from supply-only solutions towards demand-side solutions.

Increasingly, the demand side of energy development is seen as a preferred sector for investments that can address the problems of strained capacity and environmental impacts. But what are the rules that will guide these massive new investments? Who will assist in setting the standards for ‘measuring’ the results of energy demand-side investments?

In early September California made the bold announcement of its unprecedented $2 billion investment in energy efficiency. California chose EVO’s flagship product, the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP) as the foundation for its Evaluation, Measurement and Verification (EM&V) plans. EVO, through the IPMVP, has been assisting public and private decision-makers for over 10 years. Today, the IPMVP is the leading international standard in M&V protocols. IPMVP’s flexible framework has proven successful in all types of programmes and projects, and its use has grown as a consequence. It has been translated into ten languages and is used in more than 40 countries. Five thousand copies are ordered or downloaded annually.

EVO is developing other protocols such as the International Energy Efficiency Finance Protocol (IEEFP) to allow banks and other sources of investment capital to apply IPMVP in contracts and programmes. EVO also provides national and international training and workshops for M&V professionals and outreach at numerous conferences around the world and via international publications. The organisation is currently developing member services to further broaden and strengthen this global community.
