Expanded deployment of AMR for gas meters

Public Service Electric & Gas of New Jersey has contracted with Itron Inc. to deliver a total of 300,000 AMR modules for PSE&G’s natural gas meters – 120,000 to be supplied in 2005 and the balance in 2006. PSE&G has already automated 70,000 natural gas and electricity meters using Itron AMR technology, and says that the system has reduced meter reading costs and eliminated estimated bills and the need for access to customers’ premises.

Under a separate agreement the utility will also conduct a pilot deployment of Itron’s newest generation of gas and electric Fixed Network technology, as well as a residential energy management system pilot to evaluate demand response.
