Home solutions offer conservation and demand management programs

Milton, ON, Canada — (METERING.COM) — February 7, 2007 – Canadian utility Milton Hydro will deploy Trilliant Home solutions to provide customers with choice of participation in planned conservation and demand management programs. Milton is one of the fastest growing communities in Canada, and has been designated by the Ontario government as a priority location for the installation of smart metering. The utility plans to have a smart meter in every home and business by April 2008.

“The Trilliant Home offering provides Milton Hydro with a means to not only meet regulatory requirements but to enhance our customers’ experience,” said Don Thorne, president and CEO of Milton Hydro Distribution Inc. “This program will provide residential consumers with the information and the means for direct participation in managing our limited energy resources.”

Trilliant Networks is the first AMI supplier to provide an open standards-based platform for AMI-integrated demand response, incorporating thermostats and other loads such as pool pumps and water heaters. The solution also supports ‘in-home’ consumer displays that control loads, display meter readings, and provide for utility initiated messages.

Trilliant Networks and Zensys have also announced plans to integrate Trilliant’s wireless mesh technology with in-home wireless control offerings available through the many Z-Wave™ Alliance members. By extending the AMI mesh offering, based on IEEE 802.15.4, residential customers who participate in demand response programs will be given access to a broad range of home automation functions available through major retail stores.
