St. Petersburg, FL, U.S.A. — (METERING.COM) — September 30, 2006 – Utility Progress Energy Florida has completed the installation of digital energy meters in customers’ homes. The project began in July 2005, and was finished three months ahead of schedule.
The utility reports that 195 workers were assigned to the project, and that at the time of peak installation they set a record by completing 15,000 meters in one day. The new meters have digital displays instead of dials, and use secure radio frequency transmissions for collection from a drive-by vehicle. They are also resistant to tamper, and Progress Energy Florida expects this to reduce cases of energy theft.
