Moscow, Russia and New York, NY, U.S.A. --- (METERING.COM) --- February 9, 2011 - Application and product engineering outsourcing services provider Luxoft has announced the market’s first ZigBee Smart Energy wireless communication module for Landis+Gyr’s E350 flex meter.
By combining the quality and power of the Landis+Gyr E350 metering device with the easy-to-deploy ZigBee Smart Energy communication protocol, Luxoft enables utility companies the ability to better manage wireless devices at customer sites. As a result, utilities can significantly reduce operating costs and better allocate resources during periods of fluctuations in energy consumption.
Utilities have turned increasingly to demand response programs in an effort to gain control over critical peak pricing challenges. These programs rely heavily upon the tight integration of a complex ecosystem of constituents, various metering systems and diverse communication layers that can make meter data quality and meter read frequency a challenge. The result is less agility and delayed decision-making in response to energy usage fluctuations.
In response to this gap in the market, Luxoft’s demand response automation framework, DRFusion, was designed for metering vendors, demand response aggregators and utilities, and includes the latest platform for creating load curtailment systems.
When combined with the company’s professional services, the platform solution can be built to seamlessly integrate meter reading solutions, unify and visualize metering data, and enable the demand side management for different automated meter reading (AMR) systems, meters and communication platforms, already in place. Meters data is then collected from the wireless meters, transmitted to DRFusion through nearly any communication protocol and is stored in a middleware system for analysis. All the meter data from different data sources is collected and unified. As a result, meter reading becomes more streamlined, efficient and faster for utilities, and the power demand response platform as a whole enables agile energy management decision making.
“Luxoft recognized early on the potential of adding wireless links to the millions of smart meters installed worldwide,” said Michael Minkevich, VP Technology Services at Luxoft. “Our new communication module streamlines the collection of metering data via ZigBee Smart Energy wireless protocol, and enables seamless integration of disparate meters into the wider energy efficiency value chain. That makes the new module an essential element of any demand response system.”
