San Antonio, TX, U.S.A. — (METERING.COM) — May 7, 2007 – The Metering, Billing/CIS America 2007 team arrived onsite in San Antonio, Texas, over the weekend to undertake final preparations for the event, which starts Wednesday May 9.

The team members includes the conference manager Elize van Staden, exhibition manager Gerald Schreiner, registration manager Jimina Schmidt, the Smart Energy International publisher Errol Bryce and editor Jonathan Spencer Jones, and the COO Devi Paulsen and CEO Rudi Leitner, of the organizer, Spintelligent.

This year’s eighth Metering America has the theme ‘The integrated smart metering, billing and CIS toolkit for the NOW utility’ and reflects the increasing interest in AMI and smart metering across North America. To date the penetration of AMI across the U.S. is little more than 6%, according to a recent FERC survey, but this is rapidly set to increase over the next few years as more and more utilities, with impetus from the Energy Policy Act of 2005, move to advanced metering for their future metering requirements.

The host electric and gas utility for the event is CPS Energy – the largest municipally owned combined electric and gas utility in the U.S. – and with an AMI project in the early stages of development it is expected that the utility will share its progress on this. CPS Energy also runs an award winning customer contact center and delegates will have the opportunity to learn more about the center and to see it in action.

Program highlights include debates on ‘Why are utilities, government and the industry taking the direction that they are?’ and ‘Meter life – expectations and assurance’ with perspectives from utilities and meter manufacturers. General sessions will cover issues such as AMI and the customer and Meter to cash, and also there will be updates from North America as well as elsewhere in the world. A super workshop will focus on smart metering large scale rollout, with in depth review of issues such as the vendor, utility, installer relationship and project management technologies.
