Des Moines, IA, U.S.A. — (METERING.COM) — August 28, 2008 – MidAmerican Energy Company, the largest utility in Iowa providing service to 720,000 electric customers and 702,000 natural gas customers in a 10,600 square-mile area, is deploying an AMR system in a section of its service territory.
All the usual benefits of collecting meter data automatically are expected to be achieved – no more estimated bills, no need for customers to make special arrangements to allow readers access to their property, improved reading accuracy, and improved efficiencies for the utility.
The meter data will be collected by radio receivers fitted into company vehicles. All the new meters are equipped with transmitters that send the information to the receivers as company personnel drive by the home in which the meter is located. This information is then uploaded to MidAmerican’s billing system.
