Municipal utilities offered low entry cost smart metering option

Falls Church, VA, U.S.A. — (METERING.COM) — August 14, 2008 – MainNet Communications has announced a new financing program for municipal utilities, using Solo, the company’s smart grid solution.

The Tax Exempt Lease Purchase programme, gives municipalities the chance to implement advanced metering and smart grid solutions with little or no initial investment. Offered through Mosaic International, this is a low interest lease that can be structured for terms up to 15 years.

Says Joe Marsilii, MainNet CEO, "The combination of low interest and the long term financing lets many municipal utilities have the opportunity to experience the benefits and cost savings from our smart metering solution today."

Combining MainNeta’s Ethernet-based power line communication system with an IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee RF Mesh network to ZigBee-enabled meters, Solo also serves as the infrastructure for additional smart grid applications such as in-home load switches, thermostats and smart appliances and reading of other utility meters (both water and gas).

An open protocol communication systems allows the utility to add applications by connecting any ZigBee-based or Ethernet based device to the network including distribution automation switches, sensors and other devices from a wide variety of standards-based products. Additional to the solution are meters with under-the-glass meter interface modules (MIMs) and back-office software tools for AMI and a variety of other smart grid applications.
