Nevada Power installs test pilot

US utility Nevada Power Company is installing a test pilot of Elster Electricity LLC’s EnergyAxis® System, which uses a 900 MHz controlled mesh network comprised of Elster Electricity’s single phase electronic REX® meters and A3 ALPHA® meter collectors. Nevada Power will test 2,500 REX meters in two locations in the Las Vegas, Nevada area.

The pilot will be installed by the end of the first quarter 2005. Some 1,000 REX meters will be installed at an apartment condominium complex with a high turnover rate, and the meter’s optional remote connect and disconnect feature will be tested here. The remaining REX meters will be installed in new houses in a fast-growing residential area that lies outside the utility’s established meter reading routes. In this area the AMR capabilities of the EnergyAxis system will be tested. /
