Germantown, MD, U.S.A. — (METERING.COM) — February 29, 2008 — Eka Systems, Inc., a global manufacturer and supplier of smart wireless energy networks that enable smart meters, controls, appliances and smart grids to reach their full potential, has announced its ability to support residential, commercial and industrial gas metering for utilities through the release of its new product line, EkaNet 1400 Series Gas Nodes.
“This release marks another milestone for Eka Systems, said Prakash Chakravarthi, CEO, “and further substantiates our commitment to developing smart networks for utilities with multi-utility AMI needs of any size.”
Eka’s gas meter Node is a battery-powered interface module that connects gas meters to the fixed AMI (advanced metering infrastructure) network established by Eka Nodes on electricity meters, and is fully integrated into the company’s smart energy network platform, EkaNet. This strategy extends EkaNet’s highly secure two-way communications network to gas meters, and incorporates gas applications into Eka’s AMI solutions portfolio.
Flexible in its user-programmable capabilities, Eka gas meter Nodes allow utilities to configure and modify meter read intervals, and report intervals and alarm thresholds, during Node installation or at any time thereafter. This allows utilities to customize operations for any specific need. Supporting both residential and C&I applications, Eka’s gas Node is suitable for new deployments as well as retrofits. The gas Node has a field replaceable battery. Initial releases will support current and previous gas meters offered by American and Sensus.
