Echelon Corporation, a technology supplier for the LONWORKS control networking standard, has announced that STROM B-Systems, a system supplier in the utilities sector, has entered into an agreement to become a value-added reseller (VAR) of Echelon’s Networked Energy Services (NES) intelligent electricity metering system. STROM is a subsidiary of the SISTEMA Group, a private sector company in Russia and the Confederation of Independent States.
The company believes that AMM next-generation metering solutions represent a high growth opportunity throughout Europe, driven by EU-wide legislation designed to open markets and improve energy efficiency and by the desire of utilities to offer better service at a lower operating cost. It will connect its NES infrastructure with its integrated data collection, processing and billing solution to provide a complete back-office infrastructure for gas, water and electricity utilities.
STROM’s FORIS product family supports utilities’ IS/IT requirements, including data collection and management, fraud detection, billing and inter-billing and customer relationship management. Echelon’s NES system provides an open, bi-directional and extensible infrastructure that enables a comprehensive range of utility applications, from metering to customer services to value-added services. The incorporation of the NES infrastructure should allow STROM to expand the capabilities of its FORIS offering to include automated networked meter management and convergent billing.
