Oakville Hydro selects smart grid solution

Oakville, Canada and Raleigh, NC, U.S.A. — (METERING.COM) — September 2, 2009 – The Oakville Hydro Corporation has selected the FlexNet™ solution to power the next major milestone in the utility’s advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) initiative.

Beginning in September the utility will deploy Sensus’s FlexNet™ – a single-tier AMI system that provides reliable and flexible AMI fixed network service. The smart grid solution includes a dedicated, FCC licensed and protected communications network, with up to 2 W of transmission power.

The FlexNet product suite offers dependable, mission critical performance, combined with ANSI compliant metering, IP-based wide area communications, open standards home area networking, advanced smart grid products, and IP-based information systems.

“The minimal infrastructure of the solution helped us further our conservation efforts. We know our customers are doing all they can to use our resources responsibly, and we wanted to do the same from the delivery and provider prospective,” said Bob Myers, director, energy services for Oakville Hydro Corporation.

Oakville Hydro Corporation is part of the London Hydro Consortium Project which recently selected the FlexNet solution for 1.2 million of the overall 1.8 million meters affected by the project. The Ontario utility, under its Energy Conservation Program, has been installing smart meters on all new home construction for the past five years.
