Ontario’s smart meter rollout continues

Stratford, ON, Canada — (METERING.COM) — February 23, 2007 – More and more utilities are asking the Ministry of Energy for permission to start smart meter rollouts as progress towards full implementation throughout the province by 2010 continues. The latest is Festival Hydro, an electric utility with some 18,500 customers.

Bill Zehr, President of Festival Hydro, says he hopes that deployment can begin in 2007. The utility plans to spread the installation over four years, and has asked the Ontario Energy Board for permission to raise tariffs by about 50 cents a month to help pay for the smart meters.
