PG&E and Wellington Energy sign smart meter deal

Smart Meters

Pittsburgh, PA., USA — (METERING.COM) — August 24, 2006 Wellington Energy, a subsidiary of Wellington Power Corp., has announced that it has signed an agreement with San Francisco-based utility Pacific Gas & Electric Co. to install over 9 million gas and electric smart meters in homes and businesses.

Wellington Power’s President and CEO, Paul Loftus, has described the project as “one-of-a-kind”.

The work being done in California is part of a national trend in which utilities are trying to find ways to monitor consumption more closely. With the full scale installation of the SmartMeters due to start in October 2006, PG&E will be able to offer residential and commercial customers two pricing options in the first half of 2007.
