Power Alliance Prepares For Advanced Command And Control Technology Specification

The Home Plug® Power Alliance’s mission is to enable and promote rapid availability, adoption and implementation of cost-effective, interoperable and standards-based home powerline networks and products. It is currently preparing for the development of a specification for an advanced command and control technology, known as HPCC (HomePlug Command & Control) a low speed, low cost specification intended to complement its higher-speed powerline communications technologies.

Ariane Controls, a PLC technology developer, has recently joined the Alliance. The company says that such a specification is essential for the development of this particular industry, and hopes to help with definition of the new standard. Market projections indicate that by 2007/8 millions of command and control nodes will be sold each month, and the Alliance is looking to create the key market-unifying standard that will increase the total market for such applications.
