PowerStream launches contest to educate consumers about benefits of smart grid

Frank Scarpitti,
Mayor, City of
Vaughan, ON, Canada — (METERING.COM) — October 18, 2012 – Ontario municipal electricity distribution company PowerStream has launched a contest to encourage consumers to learn about the benefits of smart grid – and in doing so, for five of the participants to win Apple iPad 3s.

The FollowtheSmartGridtoWin.com contest, which started Monday, requires consumers to follow PowerStream’s tweets on Twitter and to re-tweet them to their followers during the course of the next four weeks.

“Smart grid technologies are helping us to build a social energy network in this province, so it is somewhat fitting that we are using a contest, in combination with the power of social media, to communicate this to consumers,” commented Frank Scarpitti, PowerStream Board chair and Mayor of the City of Markham.

The launch of the contest coincides with SmartGrid Canada’s conference on ‘Engaging the Consumer.’

PowerStream, jointly owned by the Cities of Barrie, Markham and Vaughan, is the second largest municipally-owned EDC in Ontario, providing service to approximately 355,000 customers in communities located immediately north of Toronto and in Central Ontario.
