Allentown, PA, U.S.A. — (METERING.COM) — May 3, 2012 – PPL Electric Utilities is the latest utility to join up to the Green Button initiative and will shortly be making it available to customers.

The Green Button standardizes how electric usage data is presented to utility customers and allows them to easily download their personal energy usage details into applications of their choice. Green Button-based web and smartphone applications are expected to assist consumers by providing energy efficiency tips, virtual energy audit software and more.

“Informed customers are much better prepared to use energy wisely,” noted Gregory N. Dudkin, president of PPL Electric Utilities. “We’ve long held that view and feel that Green Button is a natural extension of our commitment to a well informed customer base.”

The number of utilities offering the Green Button is increasing rapidly and at least nine large utilities are planning to offer the facility in the coming months.

PPL Electric Utilities, in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, envisages that the program become available to its customers during this summer.
