Bellevue, WA and Atlanta, GA, U.S.A. — (METERING.COM) — June 9, 2011 – Puget Sound Energy, the largest utility in Washington state, has extended for seven years its contract with Landis+Gyr for the provision of managed metering services.

Under the terms of the contract, Landis+Gyr provides management of the advanced meter network and meter data retrieval for PSE’s 1.1 million electric and 800,000 natural gas meters. Landis+Gyr began installing the PSE meter reading network in 1997 and completed the final phase of deployment in 2006.

“PSE has realized a number of operational and customer service benefits over the years from Landis+Gyr in deploying and maintaining our meter reading network,” said Rudiger Wolf, PSE vice president and chief information officer. “Extending our contract positions us to maintain our current capabilities and plan for the future requirements of our system to meet customer needs.”

PSE is one of 20 utilities that currently contract with Landis+Gyr to operate and maintain their meter networks. The fixed RF network installed at PSE provides the utility with daily meter data used for billing and operations purposes. It also offers a proven migration path to deploy the two-way Gridstream network for utilities requiring two-way communication for demand response and customer engagement activities.
