Atlanta, GA, U.S.A. — (METERING.COM) — January 21, 2011 – Compatibility of the Gridstream advanced metering solution with the RuggedMAX WiMAX wide area network from RuggedCom has been successfully verified, Landis+Gyr has announced.
This capability will allow Gridstream customers to use the RuggedMAX solution to communicate with Gridstream data collectors. In the Gridstream solution, wide area networks are used to transport information between data collectors and head-end servers located at the utility or Landis+Gyr’s data center.
RuggedMAX is a high power WiMAX base station that is ideally designed for data backhaul from advanced metering, distribution automation and SCADA systems. Operating in both the 3.65 GHz (FCC and IC) and 1.8 GHz (IC) spectra, RuggedMAX meets requirements in the United States and Canada for electric power applications.
“Gridstream is an interoperable communication platform that supports nearly every smart grid application, including grid automation and home area networking,” said Jeff Carkhuff, vice president of product management at Landis+Gyr. “We will continue providing our customers with the ability to use and integrate technologies that offer the best performance and cost effectiveness for each application.”
“We are very pleased that our IEEE 802.16e based RuggedMAX solution has been certified by Landis+Gyr as a utility-grade broadband wireless WAN for their Gridstream solutions,” added Elik Jaeger, vice president RuggedWIRELESS. “We are excited about working closely with Landis+Gyr on select projects to implement smart grid solutions for our electric power utility customers.”
