San Marcos, TX, U.S.A. — (METERING.COM) — May 13, 2009 – The City of San Marcos has recently retired its oldest meter, when it was replaced with a new smart meter in the City’s advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) rollout.
The meter, a General Electric type I-14 meter, was installed on November 26, 1943 by the Lower Colorado River Authority, according to the San Marcos Electric Utility’s records. However, metering supervisor Angela Riley points out that this type of meter was manufactured in the early 1900s, with manufacturing discontinued in 1929.
“It was already fairly old when it was installed 65 years ago,” said Riley.
Noteworthy too is the accuracy of the old meter, despite its age. Riley commented that its readings were comparable to those of the new smart meter.
