Rosemead, CA, U.S.A. — (METERING.COM) — September 18, 2007 – Southern California Edison (SCE) has awarded an electric meter installation contract involving the exchange of 4.5 million residential and small business meters to Corix Utilities of Vancouver, Canada. The contract, which is subject to approval by the California Public Utilities Commission, calls for Corix to hire, train and manage a deployment staff of approximately 150 union meter installers.
The award forms part of SCE’s advanced metering program, Edison SmartConnect, that involves the deployment of 5.3 million smart meters to its residential and business customers with demand of less than 200 kW. SCE expects to generate significant savings by encouraging customers to change their consumption behavior. The program will also allow the utility to communicate with household devices such as air conditioners, increasing temperatures a few degrees at times of peak demand.
Corix Utilities is part of the Corix Group of Companies, which specializes in providing infrastructure solutions in the water, wastewater and sustainable energy sectors.
