In some positive publicity for US smart meter manufacturer Sensus, a town in Arizona is reporting 57 per cent improvement in leak adjustments since installing a smart water network.

The Town of Oro Valley, north of Tucson, reports that customers are saving money and water through early leak detection using Sensus FlexNet communication network and iPERL smart water meters.

Improved customer service

Commenting on the benefits of installing 8,800 smart water meters since 2011, Shirley Seng, water utility administrator at the Town of Oro Valley, said: “Manual meter readings are not only time consuming but susceptible to error.

“Sensus technologies have helped us provide error-free meter readings for our customers resulting in accurate billings, a reduction in paperwork, simplification of billing functions and significantly improved customer service.”

Meter communication

The iPERL residential water meters and FlexNet long-range radio network provides two-way communications that feature a suite of alarms to better monitor and control water leaks.
