Raleigh, NC, U.S.A. — (METERING.COM) — February 14, 2008 – Elster Electricity, part of Elster Group, a provider of advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) and integrated metering and utilization solutions to the gas, electricity, and water industries, announces that it has shipped over 150,000 EnergyAxis® System smart meters with integrated 200A service control switches. The REX® meter with integrated service control switch gives utilities the ability to remotely connect and disconnect electrical service to the consumer. It also allows the option of providing demand limiting and token-less pre-pay to the consumer. Utilities using REX meters with an integrated service control switch are seeing a significant streamlining of field operations, reduced operating costs, increased revenue assurance, and improved customer service.

A key feature of the integrated service control switch is Elster’s patented load side voltage sensing. Load side voltage sensing allows the utility to detect meter bypassing and potential safety related concerns, such as customer generation, prior to service reconnection.

"Elster is dedicated to providing solutions that exceed our customer expectations," remarked David G. Hart, senior vice president of products and quality. "Customer demand for our smart meters with an integrated service control switch is just one of the reasons Elster has the largest deployment of two-way mesh AMI applications in the world."

The EnergyAxis System is an advanced metering infrastructure that uses state-of-the-art two-way communications to manage installed devices and retrieve metering information. With over 1.3 million units shipped, it is the most widely deployed AMI system in North America featuring a true two-way RF mesh network, a technology of choice among utility companies. System installations span the globe, with deployments in North and Central America, Australia, New Zealand, and the Caribbean.
