Smart grid: Sharon Allan to head up US interoperability body


US organization Smart Grid Interoperability Panel (SGIP) has named Sharrsz_sharon_allan_sgipon Allan as its new president and chief executive officer.

The board of directors of SGIP confirmed that Ms Allan will work to accelerate smart grid interoperability.

Allan will be tasked with strengthening SGIP ties between utilities, research labs, regulators and business leaders around the world.

She will work closely with members to increase visibility for the work SGIP is doing to address the key grid modernization issues of resiliency and integration of new systems.

Industry experience

Allan has 30 years’ experience in the energy sector. She was manager director of Accenture Smart Grid Services, president of Elster Integrated Solutions and held roles with ABB and IBM.

John McDonald, SGIP board chairman and director, and technical strategy and policy development at GE Digital Energy, said: “Allan brings to SGIP deep industry relationships and leadership, two invaluable traits that made her an ideal candidate for our organization.“She will help SGIP evolve its mission in partnership with members to help them overcome grid modernization challenges.”
