Smart grid visionaries recognized


Washington, DC, U.S.A. — (METERING.COM) — September 30, 2008 – Six individuals and companies were recognized at GridWeek 2008 for their vision and contributions toward advancing the smart grid.

Two awards were presented by the Board of Directors of the GridWise Alliance. U.S. Congressman Rick Boucher, chairman of the House Energy and Air Quality Subcommittee, was recognized for his “leadership in bringing the smart grid to the nation’s attention through the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007.”

The Alliance also presented an Achievement Award to IBM as a “founding member of the GridWise Alliance and … a powerful agent in transforming our electrical grid.”

Four Smart Grid Awards(TM) were presented by the GridWeek steering committee for excellence in advancing the progress of the smart grid.

Steve Hauser, president and acting director and founding member of the GridWise Alliance, and head of market development for GridPoint, received the Smart Grid Vision Award.

Eric Lightner of the Department of Energy’s Office of Electric Delivery and Reliability and the Program Manager for Electricity Distribution/GridWise, received the Smart Grid Advocacy Award.

Erich Gunther, chairman and chief technology officer, and co-founder of EnerNex Corp., received the Smart Grid Technology Leadership Award.

Tom Sloan, state representative of the Kansas legislature, was awarded the Smart Grid Policy Leadership Award for advocating technology and energy initiatives.
