Smart metering system receives Measurement Canada approval

Triacta Power Technologies Inc.’s PowerHawk™ 6320 smart meter system has been approved by Measurement Canada to use as a billing device. The system is designed to meter tenants in apartment buildings, office towers and marinas. Each PowerHawk meters up to 20 suites, using less wall space than a typical clipboard.

There are over one million condominium and apartment units in Ontario alone, and less than 25% have their own electricity meter. The PowerHawk is one of the few meters that complies with the technical requirements outlined in the Ontario smart meter initiative. Its onboard RJ-11, Ethernet and RS-485 ports allow Triacta’s customers to leverage any number of existing networks, including phone, cellular, high speed and PLC. All meter information is collected through an AMR system, using military-grade data encryption and is stored in a centralised, secure data centre.
