Sacramento and Newport Beach, CA U.S.A. — (METERING.COM) — September 28, 2012 – Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) has completed a project using REGEN Energy’s Swarm Energy Management demand response solution that showed peak reduction capabilities that translated into energy and bill savings for customers and peak load savings for SMUD.
Swarm Energy Management was tested in a commercial sector that includes buildings with rooftop air conditioners for which effective energy management solutions are difficult to find. The study, which was conducted at five sites, was designed to test the technology’s impact on peak use and energy consumption, as well as customer comfort, at such facilities.
“The study demonstrated that the technology can successfully manage air conditioners to save both peak and annual energy,” said Vikki Wood, SMUD project manager. “In addition, at the demand response levels we tested, the technology reduced demand during critical peak events without adversely affecting occupant comfort.”
Swarm Energy Management is an OpenADR automated demand response solution.
