Dallas, TX, U.S.A. — (METERING.COM) — August 6, 2010 – Based on strong customer demand, TXU Energy is targeting the installation of 100,000 smart energy thermostats and other devices in homes and businesses throughout Texas by 2012.

This new target is part of a new multi-year purchase, installation and service agreement with Comverge, Inc., which will enable the company to expand the availability of its custom developed TXU Energy iThermostat and other smart energy devices to customers across the competitive retail electric market in Texas.

“We are now able to install significantly more smart energy efficiency devices throughout the state,” said Jim Burke, chief executive officer of TXU Energy. “It’s an aggressive target, but we believe that giving our customers the tools they need to use less energy is good for them, it’s good for the environment and it’s good for our business.”

In 2007, TXU Energy committed to invest $100 million in demand side management and energy efficiency products and services. To date, the company has installed roughly 20,000 smart energy efficiency devices, including its iThermostat and PowerMonitor devices. In addition, the company has successfully introduced time-of-use plans.

The TXU Energy iThermostat is a web-enabled programmable thermostat that enables consumers to monitor, remotely control and personally manage their home or business temperature over the internet.

The TXU Energy Power Monitor is an in-home energy monitoring device that helps consumers understand how and when they consume electricity and what that consumption costs.

TXU Energy provides electricity and related services to more than 2 million electricity customers in Texas.
