Utilities change names

Granite State Electric, Massachusetts Electric, Nantucket Electric, Narragansett Electric and Niagara Mohawk have announced their intention to change their names to National Grid. This comes at the time that their London, UK-based parent group is planning to change its name from National Grid Transco plc to National Grid plc.

National Grid Transco is an international energy delivery company that owns and operates the HV transmission network and the high pressure gas transmission system in Britain. Its gas distribution business supplies gas to over 10 million homes and businesses in the UK.

The US utilities say that being part of National Grid has brought benefits to customers, and that adopting the National Grid name will build on this strength. The name change will have no impact on existing operations in the US.
