Utilities select EnergyIP meter data management solution

Melbourne, Australia and Houston, TX, U.S.A. — (METERING.COM) — February 4, 2009 – Melbourne utility SP AusNet and the Houston-based CenterPoint Energy have selected the EnergyIP meter data management system (MDMS) solution for their advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) rollouts.

EnergyIP will be deployed across SP AusNet’s 680,000 residential and 20,000 commercial and industrial meter points in the state of Victoria.

CenterPoint Energy is to rollout two million meters, with installations due to begin in March 2009 and completion scheduled for 2013

EnergyIP from eMeter enables utilities to capture the full benefits of their smart grid and smart metering initiatives including demand response programs. Demand response programs have been shown to enable electric consumers to conserve up to 20 percent of their electricity use.

SP AusNet operates distribution networks delivering electricity to more than 600,000 customers in eastern Victoria and gas to approximately 537,000 customers in central and western Victoria.

CenterPoint Energy comprises an electric transmission and distribution utility serving the Houston metropolitan area, local natural gas distribution businesses in six states, and a competitive natural gas sales and service business serving customers in the eastern half of the U.S., among other business activities.
