Western Australia utilities to pilot Energy Aware in-home display

Perth, Australia and Vancouver, BC, Canada — (METERING.COM) — February 2, 2011 – Western Australia power companies Synergy Electricity Retail Corporation and Western Power have launched a 2,200 home trial of Canadian developer Energy Aware Technology’s PowerTab in-home power consumption display.

The trial forms part of the Australian government’s $94 million (US$ million) Solar Cities program. The Perth Solar City in Perth’s Eastern Region includes the Shire of Kalamunda, Town of Belmont, Shire of Mundaring, City of Swan, Town of Bassendean and Town of Bayswater.

The PowerTab is ZigBee certified and provides residential customers with real time data on their power consumption, current and up-coming electricity rates as well as text messages from their utility service provider.

“This is an exciting initiative because it provides households with a visible signal of the electricity they are using, and often wasting, and how much it is costing at any point in time,” said Synergy spokesperson, Andrew Gaspar.
