Xcel Energy expands advanced metering infrastructure program

ATLANTA, GA. — (METERING.COM) — January 11, 2007 – West and Midwest electric and natural gas company Xcel Energy is to expand its wireless fixed network metering to over 710,000 new, solid state electricity and natural gas customer meters across four states.

Intelligent communication and automation solutions provider Cellnet Technology, Inc. has announced that it is increasing its Minnesota area UtiliNet® network into Wisconsin, North Dakota and South Dakota. At the rollout’s conclusion, Xcel Energy will have deployed advanced metering infrastructure to more than 2.1 million electricity and natural gas customers throughout these service areas.

Minneapolis-based Xcel Energy has regulated operations in eight states providing products and services to 3.3 million electric and 1.8 million natural gas customers.
