Total has signed an agreement with Simply Blue Energy to acquire an 80% stake in a floating wind energy project being built in the Celtic Sea in Wales.

The 96MW Erebus wind project will be installed in an area with a water depth of 70 meters.

The project is Total’s first of its kind in the UK.

The acquisition of the project falls under efforts by Total to expand its business in renewables. The firm has set a goal to have 15 to 20% of its sales to come from low-carbon energy business by 2040.

Today, Total has installed 3GW of renewable energy capacity.
