UK’s BEIS launches next renewables projects funding round

The UK’s Department of Business Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) will launch the third Contracts for Difference allocation round for new renewable energy projects on 29 May 2019.

Developers of offshore wind, remote island wind, and wave and tidal technologies, also known as Pot 2 technologies, have until the 18 June deadline to submit project applications.

Applications will be assessed between the deadline and 09 July, and unsuccessful applicants may then appeal their application.

The earliest the week-long CfD3 sealed bid window will open is 19 July, the latest is 9 October, dependant on the appeals process.

The auction results will be published by 18 August at the earliest, and 04 November by the latest.

CfD3’s £65m budget is expected to provide funding support for approximately 4GW of new renewable energy projects, but up to 6GW will be considered, across the 2023-24 and 2024-25 delivery years.

Other low-carbon electricity technologies eligible for the CfD3 auction include anaerobic digestion above 5MW

Other sources of low-carbon electricity eligible for the CfD3 auction are advanced conversion technologies, anaerobic digestion above 5MW, dedicated biomass with CHP and geothermal.
